To date we have researched and documented the lives of four significant individuals who lived in and around Franklin Township as the area was known two centuries ago.
Listen to the stories about Benjamin Everson and James Henry Terwilliger, soldiers in the Union Army during the Civil War; John Andrew Mallinson, local politician in Allendale and Charles Kinsey, inventor and congressman. Listen also to the cemetery’s noteworthy history and learn about the complex headstone restoration process. Each segment averages about three minutes.
Access the tour with your smartphone and earbuds. Go to Union Cemetery and find a headstone with an audio tour sign next to it. Click on your phone’s camera app and focus on the QR code on the sign. Click on the notification at the top and your audio tour will begin. Be sure your volume is turned up.
You can also listen to the tour from anywhere using your phone or laptop via the MP3 links or QR codes below on this page.
Each tour is numbered but you can tour in any order. However, we suggest you first listen to Number 1 (History of the Union Cemetery) and 2 (Headstone Restoration Process).
Please remember to social distance – 6 feet apart – if there are other visitors in the cemetery. We strongly suggest wearing earbuds so you do not disturb other visitors while you listen. If no one else is around, feel free to forego your earbuds.
The Union Cemetery is open from dawn to dusk. Wear sturdy shoes and please do not visit during inclement weather.
The WHS is excited to bring you our new audio tour and would like to hear your comments! Please email us at info@wyckoffhistory.org or find us on Facebook at facebook.com/wyckoffhistory.
As we research more local folks interred in Union Cemetery, we will add to our audio tour list.
