The Christian Health Care Center (CHCC) was founded in 1911 by a group of deacons from local Reformed and Christian Reformed churches. They wanted to provide physical, mental, and spiritual care, regardless of affiliation, for mentally ill patients who would otherwise be uncared for. Funds were raised, property was purchased, and the farmhouse renovated, and in 1917, the Christian sanatorium opened. Through various expansions, the CHCC provides a wide range of care to the community today.
